Blue Fronted Amazon Parrot- Coco
Blue Fronts originate from South America and are one of the most popular Amazon parrots to be kept in captivity.
They are recognised by their distinctive blue feathers just above their beak.
Coco came to us in July 2011, when she was approximately 5 years old, from what little we know of her history she has had a variety of owners during that time so we felt it was time she had a secure forever home.
When she arrived she took a llittle while to settle in but once she had found that she was safe she was happy to come out of her cage and sit on the top to survey her world. She now likes to venture onto our other birds cages to visit them but rarely, if ever, flies.
She is still afraid of hands so she won't step up but will readily take food from us now. With time and patience we are hoping that she will trust us enough to tolerate being handled.
Her favourite thing to do is to tear up cardboard, egg boxes, toilet rolls and the inside of tape rolls are all fair game!
Her favourite treat is fish fingers as you can see from the photos! She also has a varied diet of specific parrot food and lots of fresh fruit and vegetables.
She can say hello and wolf whistle but that it is the limit of her vocabulary however, like any Amazon parrot she loves to hear the sound of her own voice and can be VERY noisy squawking at times, particularly when she is excited to see us return home or first thing in the morning!!!
Yellow Crowned Amazon - Leoni
Yellow crowned amazons also origiante in South America they are predominantly green with a large yellow 'crown' . They are larger than their blue front cousins but also make entertaining pets and love attention!
Leoni came to us on a temporary basis in April 2012, her human Dad had been suffering from respiratory problems which were being attributed to feather dander. We agreed with Leoni's Mum and Dad that she would stay with us for an initial 3 months whilst tests were undergone to see if that really was the cause.
Sadly when the results came back it proved positive that Leoni's presence was causing her Dad's health problem so with a heavy heart they decided that Leoni would stay permanently with us. Having had her for 7 years from a baby this was no easy decision but they knew that Leoni was in a good place and when they saw how well she had bonded with Coco they were reassured.
Leoni has proved a wonderful addition to our flock, she is very friendly and love cuddles and tickles, she chatters away in her own gobbledegook language as well as saying "Hello", "Oh Yeah", "Loni want a tickle" and "Loni go nigh nigh", amongst others!!!
Her favourite thing to do is chew things!! Anything!! From her toys, to tables, to phone charger leads and remote controls!!! She's not fussy!!!
