Egg Art
Sally and Keith started decorating eggs when friends of theirs got married in September 2010 and they wanted to give them something unique. Keith cut the egg and Sally painted and decorated it including an origami swan made from £20 notes within the finished item. That was the start!
On seeing photos of the finished egg, another friend suggested that they should enter their eggs at poultry shows and so the work began!
The first show they entered was the National Poultry Club Show at Stoneleigh Park in November 2010 where they entered two classes and won both, Four Decorated Eggs, with Christmas baubles made from Appenzeller hens eggs and One Decorated Egg with a VW Camper Van made from a rhea egg.
The next show was the Federation of Poultry Club shows at Stafford in December 2010 and they decided to make different eggs for each show entered.
Whilst deciding on what design to use they had a brain wave that the eggs could be auctioned off for Charity after the show and so they entered two classes, One Decorated Egg for which they chose to make an Air Ambulance Helicopter and a Spitfire Plane and One Painted Egg which sports the Help For Heroes logo all made from rhea eggs.
Success was theirs again with 1st in class and Best Decorated Egg with the Helicopter and 2nd in Class with the Spitfire, they also took 1st in Class with the Help For Heroes Egg. These were then displayed at the show with a sign declaring that they will be auctioned off on Ebay starting 14th February 2011 to raise money for the two charities.
These Charity eggs have also featured in several magazines and newspapers including Practical Poultry, Country Smallholding, Smallholder, Shropshire Star, Market Drayton Advertiser and Newport Advertiser amongst others!
Their latest success with eggs was achieved at the Scottish National Poultry show at Lanark in January 2011 where they entered four classes and won 1st Three Decorated and Best Decorated, 1st One Decorated, 2nd Three Painted and 3rd One Painted photos of which can be seen below.
They are now working on eggs for the next show at Lichfield and have also received several commisions from friends to produce special request eggs.
Please contact us if you are interested in any of our eggs or would like to discuss a commission.
